Art and culture are among the best means for putting into practice, and promoting in terms of image, the positive values of a city. In the Museum of Capodimonte and the other components of the Polo Museale Napoletano Naples is fortunate enough to have one of the leading museums in the world. Over recent years it has mounted exhibitions of the highest quality and cultural interest which have drawn the most cultured and discerning visitors to the city and sent them away full of admiration. In addition we can mention the beauty and historical importance of the premises, the quality and scientific rigour of the studies and publications, and the museum layouts, in line with the latest museographic research.
Alongside all the great museums, whether the Metropolitan and the British Museum, the Louvre and the Prado, or the Uffizi and Brera, there are associations of friends which assist, promote and support the institution in all its activities, providing financial backing, connections and a flexible approach which makes it possible to optimise the impact, and frequently accelerate the realisation, of the museum's initiatives and activities.
Hence the creation of a free Voluntary Association, called Amici di Capodimonte, in order to assist and support this Museum and the others belonging to the Polo Museale Napoletano: acting as a genuine partner, providing backing and resonance for all its cultural initiatives and proposals.
This Association is a non-profit making, socially useful organization (ONLUS) whose members participate spontaneously according to various categories of contribution, with relative benefits, duly constituted on 14 March 2005.
The aim of the Amici di Capodimonte is to assist and support the Soprintendenza Speciale per il Polo Museale Napoletano in its institutional function of safeguarding the Neapolitan artistic heritage by means of:
-continuous financial support;
-promoting its museums and increasing visitor numbers;
-preparing events of particular interest and communicative impact;
-creating and enhancing fidelity on the part of the public, individuals (the Friends) and organizations (Corporate members and Sponsors), ensuring a flow of interest and positive energy towards the Polo.
The Amici di Capodimonte have pledged their unconditional support for the events being planned by the Soprintendenza for the 50th anniversary of the Museum of Capodimonte. They are to take direct charge of the organization and costs of the special educational project "Facciamo 100: Capodimonte per tutti" aimed at schools in the most deprived areas of the city. One hundred classes from primary and secondary schools will benefit during the school year from a comprehensive assistance programme including transport by bus and in-depth guided tours, together with publications and visual adjuncts.
Moreover the Amici will take responsibility for the project "Giovani", involving the award of two scholarships worth 10.000 Euro each enabling art history graduates from universities in Campania to undergo a year's training in the Museum of Capodimonte, culminating in a project of scientific research or museum management to be assigned by the Soprintendenza.

RIGHTS AND PRIVILEGES OF MEMBERSHIP
On receipt of the membership fee or discretionary contribution, each Friend will receive a personal membership card with the stamp for the current year in the colour corresponding to the chosen category, and specified on the card.
It is necessary to show this membership card at the ticket offices in the Museums of the Polo (Capodimonte, San Martino, Sant'Elmo, Villa Pignatelli, Floridiana, Certosa di Capri) to benefit from the advantages reserved for the Friends.
In terms of admission to Museums and Exhibitions, these benefits are as follows:
for Amico, Coppia di Amici and Amico Sostenitore: 30% reduction
for Amico Studente, Benemerito, Fondatore and Mecenate: free
The above benefits are valid not only for the card holder but also for one accompanying person.
For the exhibitions organized in the Museums of the Polo, the membership card entitles entrance through the preferential channel reserved for advanced bookings.
