Contemporary Art
Capodimonte is the only museum in Italy to combine a collection of old masters with a section devoted to contemporary art.
The collection, occupying the third floor and part of the attics, has been on view since 1996. Most of the works by leading international artists were conceived for Capodimonte itself on the occasion of personal exhibitions held here, starting with Alberto Burri's Grande Cretto Nero in 1978.
